Besides his work with DTL, Gordon is a single handed GP principal in rural Wiltshire, a GP Trainer, and Honorary Lecturer in General Practice at Southampton University Medical School.
He is also the Medical Consultant to Clouds House, probably the UK’s most well known residential treatment center for chemical dependency. Since starting at Clouds in 1995 he has been responsible for the detoxification and medical care of more than 4000 chemically addicted patients.
Gordon is also Trust Specialist to the West Wiltshire Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service and Medical Adviser to the National Association for Children of Alcoholics. He serves on the Wiltshire Shared Care Monitoring Group and in 2002 was appointed to the position of RCGP Regional Substance Misuse Training Lead for the South West of England. He is a mentor for the training course for the GP Certificate in Addiction and is lead GP in mental health and addiction services to the south Wilts PCT.
He has been closely involved with the RCGP Substance Misuse Management in General Practice group since it started and has been delegate or speaker at all the national conferences to date, where he has delivered a number of speeches on key areas of addiction medicine. Gordon is also a founder member of the International Society for Addiction Medicine and has designed and chaired various conferences including “Innovations and Insights in Drug Abuse” at the Maudsley Hospital in 2001.
He is author of “Detoxification” (Quay Books), a reference on medically assisted withdrawal from addiction in the residential setting, and has contributed to other leading publications.
